Description:A16593 Side 1: Tuamotu - Eastern Pacific Polynesian language (see also tapes 018, 021). Tahiti - Eastern Pacific Polynesian language Society Islands (see also tapes 018, 020, 021). Easter Island - Rapanui, Furthest SE Pacific Polynesian language (see also tape 021). Marshall Islands - Language of this widespread Micronesian island group is Marshallese [Polynesian language] (Date given is approximate). Language as given: Tuamotu, Tahiti, Rapanui, Marshall Islands
Format:Digitised: yes Media: 3M Scotch Tape. No ID. Plastic spool. No tape lead-in. Good condition. Acetate. Audio Notes: A) From AIATSIS archive copy tape A16593. Hiss, hum (at 60Hz with harmonics at 120Hz, 180Hz & 320Hz - seems constant regardless of tape spool/pause - from dub?), analogue distortion and reduced bandwidth on recording. Dub of dub - see A2) for 2nd gen dub. A2) From 5" field tape, 3 3/4ips, NAB eq, 1trk of 1/2trk. Wow, analogue distortion. Hum on recording - tape appears to be dubbed. A2_restored) Digital restoration - test by Conservatorium of Music student Adam Wilson - dehiss and noise gate. B) From AIATSIS archive copy tape A16593. Hiss, hum, analogue distortion, mechanism noise at ~1kHz & ~850Hz, and reduced bandwidth on recording. Whistle/squeal eg. at 0.08 for 2sec at 5835Hz - tape drag on rim during transfer? Severe wow - due to damaged tape, recording with flat batteries? Fluctuations in high-frequency reproduction - due to damaged tape? Dub of dub - see B2) for 2nd gen dub. B2) From 5" field tape, 3 3/4ips, NAB eq, 1trk of 1/2trk. Wow, analogue distortion. Hum on recording - tape appears to be dubbed.
