Description: | This project is a part of PhD dissertation fieldwork, supported by the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme (IGS00166). The dissertation itself will focus on evidentiality in the language, but the documentation aims to encompass as broad a set of linguistic and cultural practices as possible. Most interviews were carried out by native Kichwa researchers, and are therefore monolingual in Kichwa. The topics addressed cover the recent history of the Amazonian Kichwa, folktales, everyday life and ceremonies.
The recordings in this bundle pear stories, first with Nilo telling Jacobo the story (he's watched it quite a few times by that time, and once just inmediately before the recording). The _03 was not planned, and for the first minute or so the sound will be bad, since Nilo has taken off his lavalier. I wasn't planning on recodring, so we can't see the screen, but when I realised they started discussing the video and some interesting this came up, I decided to keep it rolling. Out of all the ways of doing the pear story this one was, I think, the most interesting, since at least it generated some dialogue. Maybe this should be the way of doing thigs, since in that way one person is in a position of authority, and the discussion is likely to last longer. That is to say if it will last at all - Nilo and Jacobo get what I am doing, but others might not, and the could just sit there and watch the video in silence. Yet to be seen what I can do. The noise in the background was the school's construction work, which is unfortunately scheduled until alomost mid-October. Both recordings were done with Canon XA10 camera and the Sennheisser ew100 wireless mic. In both cases, the L audio channel was duplicated to streo.
