Description:Rogelio tells the story of the region to his son Wilian. He explains what he has heard about the arrival of people in the Cuyabeno Reserve area. He also talks about what he has heard about the war between the Siona's and the Tetete's, a related group that spoke the same or a related language. He also tells about the encounter with these people years later. His father was present at this encounter. Rogelio talks about the arrival of people from Peru during the Ecuador-Peru war in the 1940's. The final topic is the arrival of Summer Institute of Linguistics. Parts of this story he has witnessed himself.
Rogelio is the main speaker and his son Wilian asks him questions . Maritza, Rogelio's daughter, transcribed the recording. Martine filmed, edited and deposited this transcription.
Rogelio was born in Puerto Bolivar, where he still lives with his wife Eva Merino. They have 6 children: Irma, Wilian, Gladis, Maritza, Witman, Alicia y Rodolfo. Rogelio is Ligia's older brother.
Wilian was born in Puerto Bolívar. His parents are Rogelio Criollo and Eva Merino. His siblings are Irma Criollo, Gladis Criollo, Maritza Criollo, Alicia Criollo and Rodolfo Criollo. Wilian has had various important positions in the Siona government and he was the director of the local government during the project. Wilian lives with his Cofán wife and children in Puerto Bolívar.
Maritza was born in Puerto Bolívar. She lives in Lago Agrio for work, but still regularly visits her house in Puerto Bolívar. She is Rogelio Criollo's and Eva Merino's daughter and Irma's, Wilian's, Gladis', Alicia's and Rodolfo's sister. She grew up mainly speaking Spanish, but had access to Siona through her grandparents. She started speaking Siona for her studies in bilingual education.
Martine started working with the Ecuadorian Siona in June 2010 when she was a PhD student.
