Title:A Brief Grammar of the Suri Language
Contributor (author):Bryant, Michael
Date (W3CDTF):2011
Description:This brief grammar was developed and written during a work-shop held in November 7-18 2011 in Mizan Teferi. The purpose of this book is to make the Suri community aware of the wealth and variation it inherited with the Suri language. The language possesses an intricate system of forms and rules, which all speakers use in their daily lives, often without being consciously aware of them. Many of these forms and rules are presented in this little book. It also needs to be pointed out that the purpose of this book is not to present a full and comprehensive description of the Suri language. This would be beyond the scope of this work, and it would require a different approach to the language. Many forms of the Suri language are not even mentioned in here, and some areas of the Suri grammar have been omitted from this work. Also this book attempts to use terminology which is un-derstandable by a wide audience. The hope is even that it can be translated into the Suri language to make it fully accessible to all Suri speakers. Therefore this book will disappoint every-body who wants to see a description of Suri according to the latest linguistic models and terminology.
