Description:Recorded for Kalkaringi Community Education Centre (primary and middle school) Gurindji program organised by DAC (Diwurruwurru-jaru Aboriginal Corporation) Ronnie Wave Hill tells of a boy whose job it was to help his brothers hunting by chasing the kangaroos out from the grass. One day he went too far away and he was kidnapped by a kangaroo. The big female put him in her pouch and hopped away up to the hills. His brothers found the spears he had tried to use to defend himself, read the tracks on the ground and understood what had happened. It took a long time for them to find him and then to find the right opportunity to kill the kangaroo without risking injury to their brother. In the meantime, the little one had started to grow fur on his back, kangaroo ears and was making twitching noises instead of talking. When the brothers finally managed to kill the kangaroo and take the little boy back to the camp he couldn't talk. They smoked him and dunked him in water. Then he returned to normal and he was able to tell them that they were his brothers and what had happened to him.
