A Trumai man performs songs of the festivity of Ear Piercing. The women and children of the village participate in the performance, singing and dancing.
Trumai and Portuguese are used sometimes in background conversation. With regard to the lyrics of the songs, they are not in Trumai (the songs have a special kind of lyrics).
The songs are perfomed by a Trumai man, who died years ago (Speaker1). He was the main expert on traditional songs and chants of the Trumai group. The women and children who participate in the performance were members of the Terra Preta village in 1990.
Speaker1 was a native speaker of Trumai. He was considered the best storyteller of the Trumai people. He was also an expert in ritual chants, being very respected by other Xinguan groups. He had knowledge about medicinal plants and roots, and shamanism practices. He was old (above 70) when the died in 1995.
