| Description: | ENGLISH: People from the Terra Preta and Boa Esperança villages go to the woods in order to extract the "Genipapo" fruit, used to make a blanck paint employed in body paints. There are conversations during the process of picking the fruit (sometimes in Trumai, sometimes in Portuguese). The speakers also see other kinds of plants. Later, they process the "Genipapo fruit", and a woman talks about it (again, there are conversations sometimes). ----- PORTUGUÊS: Moradores das aldeias Terra Preta e Boa Esperança vão ao mato para extrair genipapo, que é usado para fazer uma tinta preta empregada em pinturas corporais. | The purpose of the project is to document Trumai, a genetically isolate language spoken in Brazil. The archive consists of a collection of texts in the language, plus other kinds of materials relative to the Trumai culture, such as photos, drawings, songs, educational materials, etc. | ||

| There are various individuals in this session. The main speakers are: Speaker19, Speaker12, and Speaker3. Other people appear in the video, but they speak little (for example, Speaker18). The researcher Emmanuel de Vienne also participates in this session. The video was recorded by the researcher Raquel Guirardello-Damian. | ||

| Speaker19 is ethnically Kamayurá, but she can also speak Trumai, which she learned when she got married to a Trumai man (she was 14 years old by then). She became fluent, and nowadays she talks to her husband, children, and grandchildren in Trumai in a daily basis. Both her parents were Kamayurá, but her mother died when she was a small child. The husband of Speaker19 is Speaker2, a very important man in the Trumai group. Speaker19 can also speak Portuguese, although with limitations. | ||
| Speaker12 is a native speaker of Trumai. Both her parents were Trumai. She and her brother are the last descendents of the Awaldat group, a Trumai subdivision that used to speak a different dialect of the language. However, this dialect seems to have disappeared (Speaker12's way of speaking is similar to the way of speaking of the other Trumai individuals). Her late husband was Kayabi. She lives with her son and daughter-in-law and has several grandchildren. She is middle-aged (50 or more). | ||
| Speaker3 is a native speaker of Trumai. She lives in the Terra Preta village, in the central area of the Xingu Reserve. Both her parents were Trumai. Speaker3 lived in the Kamayurá village for many years, when she was still married. Nowadays she is separated, living with her daughter and son. She is middle-aged. | ||
| Speaker18 speaks Trumai and Portuguese. Portuguese is her main language. She can understand Trumai very well, but sometimes has difficulties in speaking it (she used to speak Trumai well when she was a child and spent more time with her mother; but gradually she spoke less and less when she became older and started having more contact with people outside her family). Her mother is Trumai, her late father was Kayabi (actually, her mother is genetically her grandmother, but Speaker18 regard her as mother). Speaker18 is trained as a health assistant and takes care of health affairs at her village. She has one son. | ||
| Raquel is a Brazilian linguist. She has been working with the Trumai people since 1989. She has a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Rice University (Houston, Texas, U.S.A). | ||
