Speaker17 speaks Trumai and Portuguese. Portuguese is his main language. He can understand Trumai very well, but sometimes has difficulties in speaking it. His mother is Trumai, his late father was Kayabi. Speaker17 is the teacher of the Boa Esperança village, and it is considered one of the best teachers of the Xingu reserve. He is very interested in the work of documenting the Trumai language and culture.
Speaker13 is a native speaker of Trumai. Both his parents were Trumai. He speaks Portuguese as well. He and his sister (Speaker12) are the last descendents of the 'Awaldat' group, a subdivision of the Trumai group that used to speak a different dialect of the language. However, this dialect seems to have disappeared. Speaker13 lives with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He works for the Brazilian Indigenous organization named FUNAI, and often he travels to do his work (he is a boat pilot).
