Title:The great eagle
0185-The great eagle
Documentation of Zenzontepec Chatino language and culture
Contributor:GCG
Coverage:Mexico
Date:2009-07-23
Description:GCG tells of a giant eagle that used to terrorize the community. Children could not walk around freely because they would be picked up and taken away. They wore large baskets over their heads so that if the eagle grabbed them it would only get the basket. The elders did a rite to kill and be rid of the eagle. It worked, and the village was free. The recording begins and ends with a bit of dialogue between GCG and TCR about the legend. TCR relates it as well a couple years later, and the two versions differ a bit.
