Title:The lady Rosa
0185-The lady Rosa
Documentation of Zenzontepec Chatino language and culture
Description:TCR tells of his mother-in-law Rosa and how she got very ill after giving birth. According to traditional ethnomedicinal knowledge, during the postpartum period women should not eat food classed as "cold", which includes pork, fish, and crayfish. They should stay away from mezcal also. Rosa's father killed a pig and cooked the pork. They were not paying attention for a few minutes, and she got up and ate just a couple small pieces. She became very ill and swollen in four or five days. They covered her with many blankets and clothes and prepared a temascal (steam bath). They heated bricks and put boiling water with salt and ash in there. She screamed and suffered in the bath, but they succeeded in ridding her of the swelling and coldness. After the recounting, TCR advises people to take care and be mindful always in dangerous times. He then goes into an explanation of what we are doing, documenting the language, making a dictionary, and studying ethnomedicine in depth so that the knowledge is documented and archived.Audio duration [00:10:42]
