0185-The village of kwitì7yá and the history of San Pedro del Río
Documentation of Zenzontepec Chatino language and culture
Description:In this recording TCR tells JRR about some of the oral history of the Zenzontepec region and people. First he tells of the old church ruins near La Concha and how this was the old village. La Concha gets its name because there a conch shell is reportedly blown to summon people to meetings there. The was also a now lost golden bell. The village of Santa Cruz and municipal seat is a new village. People were in San Pedro for longer. At 3:27 TCR goes on to tell some oral history of San Pedro. The Caveros and Merinos got together and settled there. A Mixtec set up a home on the site where the church of San Pedro now stands. His wife and son died, so he decided to go back to his homeland. He sold his sugar mill and cane to Francisco Cavero. That is where the church was later built. Audio duration [00:09:12]
