Title:The sun and the moon
0185-The sun and the moon
Documentation of Zenzontepec Chatino language and culture
Contributor:LCO
Coverage:Mexico
Date:2010-02-06
Description:A woman lives with her two sons, the sun and the moon. She goes to their fields to feed their father. One day they follow her and see her giving food to a deer. They wait until she leaves to hunt and shoot the deer. They pursue it. Various animals approach or sit next to them giving them clues as to what to do to cook the meat. The calls of the animals sound like Chatino words. They get home and tell their mother to cook the heart and eat it. She takes a piece and eating it goes to get water. There a tadpole tells her she is eating her husband's heart. She tells her sons this, and the sun goes out and punishes the frogs, telling them they will become food, smashing the one who spoke badly to the mother. He says that deer is food and not to be one's husband.Audio duration [00:07:52]
