Title:Three men
0185-Three men
Documentation of Zenzontepec Chatino language and culture
Description:This story is about three men traveling to sell goods. On the road they see a dead man hung from a tree. Two feel pity but the third man makes fun of the dead man. They travel on and set camp for the night. When they awake, the bad man's bag is missing. Later, they arrive at the town of their destination. The two good men sell their stuff and make some money. They consult the priest and inform him what happened. The priest asks them what they saw. When they explain the story, he tells them that the dead man took the bad man's bag. The bad man must go to three masses asking for forgiveness and then return to the same place to sleep. When they wake up, his bag is returned. They go back to tell the priest. The priest tells the bad man to find seven pregnant women and bring them to him. He makes the bad man listen the women's bellies. In one he hears a drunk screaming. In another he hears a musician playing music. The priest explains that God has determined how all of the people will turn out when they are conceived, and therefore, one should not make fun of anybody. The story is about predestination.
