| Description: | This is an audio-video recording of a traditional myth called “Cadejo”. The Cadejo is well known myth through all Chiapas. The Cadejo is a big dog that only walks during nights. If you see the Cadejo you stay in a possessed state, and you gradually get sick until you die if you do not get the right cure. Julio López says that one day he went to Huixtla (a neighboring town) with his father at three in the morning, and he suddenly saw a big dog. He thought that what he saw was not the Cadejo, and he kept walking without telling his father. At the middle of his way, he felt a lot of pain in one of his legs. Later, he thought that what he saw was the Cadejo, and that was the cause of the pain. Another time he saw the Cadejo again. This time was at the place where he was staying in Tuzantan. At this time Julio saw a goat at the door of his house. He did not became sick, but he is sure that what he saw was a Cadejo. He also says that the Cadejo can take different animal bodies. It can be a goat, or even a chicken. | |
