| Description: | These are photos taken during Gregory D. S. Anderson and K. David Harrison's fieldwork expedition to Chulym territory in 2006. They visited and recorded speakers residing in rural Chulym villages such as Tegul’det, and spent time in the nearby Siberian city of Tomsk, processing legacy data with research assistants at Tomsk State Pedagogical University. The Chulym language (Altaic, Turkic, South Siberian) is critically endangered / moribund. The number of fluent Chulym speakers is under 100, and possibly as low as 40. Dialectical diversity was still evident despite the small number of speakers. The Chulym also refer to themselves as "Bisting kishiler" ('our people'). The last Chulym speakers who the linguists photographed during this fieldtrip are named as participants in this bundle. | |
