En mixteco el nombre del pueblo de San Juan Mixtepec hace referencia a ese árbol. El pueblo se llama “Xnuviko” que significa “Pueblo de las nubes”, y algunos lo interpretan como “arriba en las nubes”. Muchos niños se caían al agua en una laguna que estaba al pie del árbol, y morían ahogados. Por eso la gente del pueblo decidió cortar el árbol. | |
| Legend tells of a very big evergreen tree in the town of San Juan Mixtepec. It was so tall its top reached the clouds. In Mixtec, the name of the town of San Juan Mixtepec makes reference to that tree. The town is called, “Xnuviko”, which means “Town of the Clouds”; some interpret it as “up in the clouds”. Many children fell into the lagoon at the foot of the tree and drowned. So the townspeople decided to cut down the tree. | ||
