Description: | Ten recordings made at the Ching²jãa¹ Pãa² (Morung) in Kamhua Noknu. These are numbered as SDM61-nnpkhn20230127_JS_ChingJãaPãa-01 to -10. Files -01: playing a wooden drum called pok kham², first by a man, Wang¹pang¹ Lõ²su² and secondly by a lady Non²nyo¹. -02 and -03, Playing the Loi¹gong¹ (Wancho horn), the first player was Maan³nyai¹ Ching²jãa¹am¹; he is so named because his household is the head of the Morung; the second player is called Lai³wang¹ Lõ²su²; this instrument is played during the harvest festival around August-September-October. The second recording (-03) demonstrates duet playing of Loigong. -04 playing the gõ¹kham² (bamboo drum) - the person playing is Ton³ge¹ ge¹am¹; this instrument is traditionally played by children to wake up everyone in the houseold in the early morning. Children would compete as to who will wake up first and who will be the first person to play. -05 Playing a game called vi³kok pai¹lai¹; this is children's game and was performed by Phõ²tong¹ Lõ²su²; -06 Ngaktaan¹ (leaf augury or prediction); this uses the broom grass leaf (taan¹naan¹) – but banana leaf can also be used. The word ngak refers to banana; only a particular type of banana can used. The three men were, right to left Maan³nyai¹ Ching²jãa¹am¹, second man Wang¹Om¹ Lõ²su² and on the left Wang¹Je³ Lõ²su². The prediction is done by tearing the leaf into multiple strips (10 being the preferred number), 5 on the left and 5 on the right, and then tying those strips. He will tie all but two of them. The tying is done without the augurer seeing which is being tied to which and after that he can tell whether it is good or bad. Maannyei and Wangom both said they did this for Stephen Morey and that it was good and what SM is planning he will be successful and have a long life.
