Description:This is a sung version, in the "Guqi" style (骨气调), of a passage from the ritual Lv Bber Lv Ssaq (phonetic transcription: lv˧bə˞˧ lv˧zɑ˩; phonetic approximation by means of Chinese characters: 鲁般鲁烧), a ritual that used to be performed after the suicide of lovers who committed suicide. The text was read from the International Phonetic Alphabet transcription on pp. 113-115 of the following book: Nàxī Dōngbā Gǔjí Yìzhù 纳西东巴古籍译注 (An Annotated Translation of Naxi Dongba Classical Texts), Volume 1, by He Kaixiang, He Shicheng, Wang Shiying, and Li Jingsheng (Kunming: Yunnan Minzu Chubanshe, 1987). The text on page 113 corresponds to the portion of the recordings from the beginning to 2mn 50s; page 114 to the portion from 2mn 50s to 5mn 06s. Reading is interrupted at the second line of page 115 ('second line' refers to the text in International Phonetic Alphabet). The sung text is much longer than the text of the ritual, due to the insertion of syllables at certain positions in the song: the syllables of the text slowly trickle into the slots designed for them inside the patterns of this singing style. The singer made pauses between each sentence/portion of text (each corresponding to about 7 seconds of singing) to look at the book and take the time to understand the passage. The transcription used in the book is the standard adopted for Lijiang Naxi, which is not exactly identical with M8's dialect (Nanyao village, Lashi): the transcription does not reflect the opposition of voiced stops and prenasalized stops, so that a syllable written as /dzɯ/ can correspond to either /ndzɯ/ or /dzɯ/ in her dialect, and /be/ to either /mbe/ or /be/. This, together with the complexity of the texts, explains why the singer made pauses between each 'stanza'. At her request, these intervening pauses were removed from the recording. The sound was collected by a Sony electret microphone 35 cm from the mouth of the singer. The sound was so intense that the left channel from the stereo microphone was highly saturated; it was discarded, retaining only the right channel, which had a less saturated signal. This is one of the vocal performances recorded at the suggestion of Naxi scholar Guo Dalie, who arranged for me to meet the singer Li Xiuxiang, from the village of Lashi (born in 1945). At the time Mrs. Li had been performing in Lijiang for several years, but no recordings were available. Heartfelt thanks are due to Mrs. Li for generously accepting to do this recording, intended for the preservation of her voice and its transmission to a large audience; to Guo Dalie and the Museum of Dongba Culture, for making the recording possible; and to the Naxi priest He Xuewen for kindly inviting us to do the recording at his residence within the Museum of Dongba Culture.
2002年,郭大烈老师为了保存纳西口传文化遗产,建议我录制著名艺人李秀香女士的歌曲。李秀香是丽江拉市海北南尧村人,擅长演唱多种不同风格的纳西歌曲。 在此非常感谢郭大烈老师与丽江东巴文化博物馆领导们的建议与大力支持,也感谢已故的和学文先生出借了他在东巴文化博物馆内的房间进行录音。 这些资料没有通过任何处理,是直接从DAT母带转录而来。
