Burning Country (Fire Management) 01

Coverage:Australia
Somwhere on the road to Marramarrani.
Description:Joy Williams Malwagag sets fire to her country. This is an important part of her role as traditional owner. Fire management or burning country is done in the dry season when the speargrass has died off and the wind has dropped. It ensures the growth of new vegetation (which in turn attracts game animals), prevents outbreaks of uncontrolled fire and clears the ground for comfortable hunting trips through the area.
