| From 2005 to present, several scholars at the University of Amsterdam, Leiden and Nijmegen have been collaborating to build a digital archive for the related Surinamese creoles Sranan and Saramaccan, that rivals the Negerhollands database. Upon completion, the Suriname Creole Archive (SUCA) will include some 550,000 Early Sranan and Early Saramaccan tokens. | ||
| Christian Ludwig Schumann, a Moravian Brother or Hernhutter, was born on 28 September 1749 in Pilgerhut, Berbice (Guyana). He received training in theology in Germany. He stayed in several places in Suriname from 1776 until 1783, learning Amerindian languages as well as Sranan and Saramaccan. In addition to this religious duties, he worked on dictionaries and bible translations in Sranan and Saramaccan during his stay. | ||
