Description:PC01, RC01 talk about: where they used to live and describe the locations (other houses); Guernesiais (G) speakers in their vicinity; speaking G with other people (rare as speaker numbers falling due to age, and ageing); a trip during the morning to a garden centre where they met people they know; RC01 at the West (agricultural and horticultural) Show with an motorised mobility scooter, going round the show, and charging its battery and carting it in the back of car; taking down a wooden greenhouse behind their home and talk of sowing a lawn in its place; an elderly friend (MT01) that they visit; PC01 & RC01 experiences of speaking G, and people who have learnt it; their daughter, speaking G to her. PC01, RC01 describe: two sketches, one of a park and people; description of woman and baby, football, people sitting on bench; a sheet of paper with two sketches, one of people sitting at a table with a parasol up: sketches of a ghost and someone’s reaction, a hammer, someone at a door; another sketch of people at a bus station (LR01 enters 34.12); PC01, RC01 ; LR01 greet each other and discuss: their ages and ageing. Discussion about two pictures of an urban street with people, shops and motor vehicles, what the people are doing and might say when in town shopping. RC01 comments on a sheet of paper with sketches of people and animals doing things, some prepositions; (LR01 leaves the room and returns with various old fashioned, generally farming, tools), PC01 leaves and returns with cups of tea; discussion follows about the tools and what they may have been used for (e.g. digging potatoes); choosing/buying a fork and spade, digging up gorse, broken; traditional farming methods (building wheat stacks. loading carts); thatching tools; hand weeding; water logged road in front of PC01 & PC02’s home and attempts by States workers to route water away; LR01 shows another tool (big needles used in thatching) and a discussion about thatching follows; a picture of three men kneeling to hand weed in a field, a discussion about flat and the introduction of the open weeder, and planting small plants; G for transplanting (PC01 fetches Marie De Garis' dictionary); tool to cut gorse; amusing discussion about variation in the speech of PC01 & RC01; couch grass (bâ), Guernsey family names; learning G as adult; picture of old lady with gorse bundle on back, furze break at La Rue de Laitte, Torteval, and a fire there, and growing potatoes on cleared land; picture of a cattle shipment; RC01’s great grand father used buy and export cattle, and his mother, who as young child was amongst big farm animals, and wasn’t afraid of them, when she was old had a horse and trap; families and own relations; water mills (Kings Mills), water shortage in 1976; furze ovens; picture of lady making butter, discussion follows; the dairy and butter making method and curds; Sark butter and unhygienic practices; forking manure; stack yard ‘hautgard’.
