Description:PLT01 talks about: speaking a little bit of Guernesiais to his granddaughter; his background, large family living at Donkey Hill in St. Andrew’s, moving to Torteval when 5 years old; speaking Guernesiais at home when child; speaking to siblings in Guernesiais; his parents’ and grandparents’ backgrounds, a big family; his father who had a work related accident and who borrowed money to keep family; his brother regularly coming home in the early hours having been drinking, and his father’s response; Torteval Douzaine, starting out as junior procureur and working up to being Dean; what the Douzaine does, refuse collection, reading Billet d’Etats; building applications and bornéments; organising parish events, the Queen’s Jubilee party; reinstating a signal mast at la Varde; the nature reserve; light on church, time capsule; raising funds and Torteval sense of community; contents of the time capsule, the governor attending the event at signal rock (La Varde), raising the flags and going back the Imperial for a reception, having had heart surgery (PLT01) and still attended event; parish cantons and parish divisions; a sketch of a park with people in it, football; a sketch of a house and garden with people in it; not having cats now, nor dogs; dog mess in the parish (some profane language), children; cats burying their excrement; a sketch of people at a table outside with a parasol; the day’s (02/04/13) weather; shell fish and enjoying preparing it, but not eating it; buying crustacea for parish Jubilee party, and friend’s evening BBQ; meals at home when he was younger; Clara Jehan’s (CJ01) 103 birthday and other resident’s of home, sudden death of CJ01’s son in law on day of Jubilee party; what he did on the (02/04/13) day; siblings also having heart problems; working life, retail, Torteval Stores - working for his uncle Bill, then Coop, Best Foods, then Airport shop until WHS bought it, unhappy with changes so undertaking all kinds of small jobs, missing meeting shop customers; stories about customers, one whose home was unkempt, and who had having no States pension; serving in the shop and how things have changed; changes to bus service and routes; paid parking; Torteval church lights.
