Description:RH01 talks about: her granddaughters; her late husband’s photographs of Guernsey, the harbour and rebuilding of St.Malo after the WWII bombings; photos taken around the island and of family, late husband worked for Wellers/as photographer; shellfish and ormers, pickling ormers and limpets; preparing ormers; visiting cousin when younger and his new washing machine, washing ormers in it; people’s different tastes, food, likes and dislikes; vegetables grown during the Occupation; incident when her father caught a German soldier digging up her fathers vegetables, and pile of wood appearing next morning (in exchange for not telling the commandant); German taking her father’s rabbits; also taking her father’s pig, and slaughtering it in greenhouse next door; her daughter visiting from England, flight diverted to Jersey because of thick fog at Guernsey airport the day before, going out for lunch together and plans to visit grave of her late husband; disliking flying, going by boat, the distance to walk from the terminal building to planes; construction work on airport runway; her son’s 4x4 being involved in small accident with Lagan vehicle (airport runway construction firm) and being paid by them for repair; Lagan workers, zero tolerance of bad behaviour; having a dim view of States’ spending, and competence of it’s members in general; dislike of glass/glazing used in some contemporary construction; what she does at the weekend (Saturday with family, Sunday on her own), TV as company when you live alone, recent episode of Coast about Guernsey, and documentary about Guernsey’s hospital; SB01 who appeared in coast is her cousin, his brother died recently; her great grandparents, great grandmother was Scottish, trying to find her grave in St. Saviour’s Church cemetery, going through various old books undertaking research; her late husband and her parents buried there; visit to see person in charge of allocating plots in cemetery and trying to locate her brothers’ (twins, both died young) graves, discussion about where her husband was to be buried, and where she will be buried; books that give details of who is buried where; a visit to see her great grandfather, who lived in St. Saviour’s and used to walk to work on a farm in the Vale, became a grower; remaining tomato growers; picking up some flower seedlings and buying peas and broad beans; growing potatoes in a bag; storm which blew panes out of greenhouse; cannon hall vine in greenhouse.
