Description:RH01 talks about: adjectives to describe degrees of intelligence/stupidity; extracurricular teaching of Guernesiais in primary schools; the Guernesiais news readers on BBC Guernsey; the late Don Girard, his children and the Guernsey French Eisteddfod; Tony Scot-Warren (Jerriais); trip to Jersey with young children; a cassette of la Doute ?? singing, but unable to find it; meaning of ‘Veyaons!’ (come on!); being in a hurry, things you might say to children when getting ready to go to school (imperatives); Guernsey Grey Buses, when children were younger and a kind bus driver who used to wait for them; new bus service, some drivers not knowing the routes and not being so courteous; shops/supermarkets; ‘foreign’ workers; complaining about poor bus service; no longer being fit enough to work in the garden; gardener/odd job man, also has a fishing boat; being able to buy ormers (halotis tuberculata) in France (her son), and eating them in a restaurant; c. 23 mins 35 secs phone rings, interview suspended; interview restarted; her cousin who thought that she was having a heart attack, went to hospital, having polymalgia; working hard in the growing industry when she was younger; doing work (gardening etc,) around the house; her grandson helping in the garden; water cylinder leaking and having a plumber to look at it; things she would say to children that are well behaved; her children playing together when much younger; potential motoring accidents in one way lane outside of her house; gardener sweeping up cuttings; intimate friends/relationship; footprints, forgetting words and neighbours who speak Guernesiais, but who aren’t prepared to take part in recordings; food that she ate when she was younger (her mother’s cooking); side of pig, salted, up on the pig rack, cut off and eaten on Easter Mondays; her mother was a good cook, cakes etc, like her granddaughter, who is expecting a girl; potatoes and beanjar in the oven and making enough to go in the deep freeze; making Guernsey Gâche in a bread maker, and making one for her neighbour’s birthday; making a gâche mêlaïe; recipe for gâche with ingredients; not being able to make Jersey wonders, her mother said it was because her hands were too heavy; bread, and making bread in bread maker; her grandfather making bread, his home at Richmond, directions, children, one died of TB after the Great War; times changing, young people wanting everything today; tale about shoe shop putting boots on bus to Fort Grey for customer to collect, people trusted each other more; old lady going shopping in town, then to buy tinned peaches at Les Gravées as cheaper, changing shopping habits, more little shops in the past, supermarkets now; preferring shopping at The Bridge (St.Sampson’s) as more Guernsey people there; not shopping in town, nothing for older people (clothes); her husband working in town at photographer’s (Wallers ??), finished at the Priaulx library, low wages as not funded by States; her husband’s father had photographer’s shop in Jersey, also served as betting shop; her husband marrying a Guernsey woman, but divorced; girls who took photos on beach of visitors 1960s/70s; her husband colouring pictures before colour photos came along, and still having the painting set.
