| Description: | Charley Patris read the Tobian language version of a paragraph called May 2014 Project Update from a handout provided to HOPE Hatohobei Organization for People and Environment, a local NGO and the host of this project. He also discussed differing Tobian accents. The recording was made by Peter W. Black in the HOPE conference room, Madalaii, Koror, PW on May 16, 2014. No other people were present. | Documenting Ramari Hatohobei (literally the Tobian language of Tobi), a severely endangered Micronesian language. Tobi is one of the Southwest Islands of the Republic of Palau, a Micronesian nation in the western Pacific. Severely endangered, Tobian is currently spoken by approximately 150 people. Tobian and the dialects of Sonsorol, Merir, and Pulo Anna, the other three Southwest Islands, are closely related to the languages spoken in the outer islands of Yap and Chuuk. | ||
