| Description: | Sisma Andrew, her sister Ketty Lorenzo, and her daughter-in-law Diana Andres were the main participants in this discussion of food growing and preparation on Tobi Island and in Echang. Various children and adults came and went. During this recording, there was a tremendous downpour which made talking very difficult. This discussion was based on Anthony Watson, Alfred Pedro, Laura Ierago: Research Paper: Ethnic Food Preparation and Eating Habits of the Southwest Island Natives of Palau (2000) available at the Friends of Tobi Island website (http://www.friendsoftobi.org/misc/research/food/foodpreparationtofc.htm). | Documenting Ramari Hatohobei (literally the Tobian language of Tobi), a severely endangered Micronesian language. Tobi is one of the Southwest Islands of the Republic of Palau, a Micronesian nation in the western Pacific. Severely endangered, Tobian is currently spoken by approximately 150 people. Tobian and the dialects of Sonsorol, Merir, and Pulo Anna, the other three Southwest Islands, are closely related to the languages spoken in the outer islands of Yap and Chuuk. | ||
