The recording was made in 2004 outside Echang Church, Ngerekebesang, Koror. The transcription of this story is included here at tb13-04107-tpa-2004-08-10.pdf. The story on the Friends of Tobi Island website is included here at tb13-03696-tpa-2004-08-10.pdf. The website version included Thomas Patris reading the story in Tobian line by line. (http://www.friendsoftobi.org/wordweek/chasingshipback.htm). In 2014, Felicia Andrew was recorded reading this story in Tobian and that is included here as Felicia Andrew: reading the story of chasing a ship back over the horizon.
Documenting Ramari Hatohobei (literally the Tobian language of Tobi), a severely endangered Micronesian language. Tobi is one of the Southwest Islands of the Republic of Palau, a Micronesian nation in the western Pacific. Severely endangered, Tobian is currently spoken by approximately 150 people. Tobian and the dialects of Sonsorol, Merir, and Pulo Anna, the other three Southwest Islands, are closely related to the languages spoken in the outer islands of Yap and Chuuk.
