| Description: | Some of the Tobians and Sonsorolese were engaged in a Bible translation project. Rosa Andrew, one of the participants, agreed to let us video her reading the Tobian language version of the Bible. On May 22, 2014 Barbara W. Black made this recording of Rosa Andrew at Rosa’s home in Koror, Palau. Since Rosa's Bible translation software, Paratext, would not work for her on this day, she told a story about the Bible. | Documenting Ramari Hatohobei (literally the Tobian language of Tobi), a severely endangered Micronesian language. Tobi is one of the Southwest Islands of the Republic of Palau, a Micronesian nation in the western Pacific. Severely endangered, Tobian is currently spoken by approximately 150 people. Tobian and the dialects of Sonsorol, Merir, and Pulo Anna, the other three Southwest Islands, are closely related to the languages spoken in the outer islands of Yap and Chuuk. | ||
