Description:England Bangala tells a dramatised story of An-dakal 'tribal warfare'. In the story, white ochre arrives at a camp, as a message to gather for a war party. The leader of this war party holds a majabala - a token of revenge for a previous killing of a close kinsman. The message travels further and the warriors continue to gather. Then they travel to the place where they will ambush the target. They gather and wait in hiding through the night as the sun sets and the stars rise. In the morning they paint themselves and plan their attack. They then encircle and attack the camp, killing everybody with spears. This text has good examples of narrative based reported speech. It also contains demonstatives used in a directive sense - 'you go there, we'll come out here' as well as descriptively, describing aspects of movement within a scene. The description of the waiting during the night shows how movements of the sun and stars are used for measuring time. Status: Checked and translated with Crusoe England July 2011. Created derived eaf and set up for analysis 11.2.2013. Worked on orthographic and translation tiers - exported as a transcription - exported audio chunks for 20/2/2013.
