Description:		This is a 33 minute video recording, transcribed and translated into English and Spanish. Samuel Añapa interviews his mother, Maria, concerning ujmu or various spirits that live in then jungle. She discusses aslaa ujmu which is a female being with a single large breast, fayu ujmu that screams in the jungle and jeengume which causes death when seen by a human being. She discusses two specific encounters with these beings by her uncle and her father. She discusses the importance of salt in both protecting oneself from these beings and killing them. Salt is also important in christian baptisms. She also tells the story of a group of fugitive blacks, who ran out of salt and presumably became cannibals as a result. She then briefly discusses the settlement of the area by the Chachi, the establishement of the ceremonial centers, and the ritual fights that used to occur in these centers. She also discusses two accidental drownings, one recent.
