Contributor:Rafael Atonoiba
Coverage:Peru
Date:2002-07-22
Description:This tells of a man who is afflicted with bad luck in the hunt (yupa) as a result of being cursed by stingy (yuashi) people in his village. One day however he hears the sound of a frog in the forest and tries to catch it but to no avail. Eventually he pleads for the frog to help him and the frog transforms into a man and tells the man to grab a stick, when he grabs it, all manner of insects such as ticks and ants leave his body (a manifestation of the curse) as well as a bird - yupafafo. The man is happy and his luck immedíately transforms as he finds peccary, armadillos and snakes with highly prized fat. He returns to his family and to the insults of the yuashi but despite these insults he shares his food with them.
