| Description: | Probing Margie's recollection of Amurdak; Margie is the wife of a deceased Amurdak speaker, Tiger Mangawulu, who contributed significantly to the documentation of Amurdak in the 1990s; her proficiency in Amurdak is documented independently, but she is showing her age somewhat; this session shows that it is very difficult to retrieve information from her these days; the idea was to probe into her knowledge with the help of Maggie, who is of Amurdak descent, but has only partial knowledge of the language, and Bruce Birch, an experienced fieldworker with fluent knowledge of Iwaidja, Margie's stronger language; during the sessions we played older stories and asked various questions relating to vocabulary and grammar as well as some information on the dialectal differentiation of Amurdak, all with little success | |
