| Description: | A semi-structured elicitation session in which Charlotte and Florance discuss word order using colour coded word cards (red = verb, blue = noun etc.). The cards were rearranged on the table to create sentences with different word orders which were then judged for their acceptability. In this recording, we continue building sentences with the transitive verb 'eat' in different voice forms (kuman 'AV.eat', nekuman 'AV.PFV.eat', kenen 'UV.IRR.eat' and kinan 'UV.PFV.eat') plus an actor (the pronouns uih '1SG.NOM' and kuh '1SG.GEN') and an undergoer (the noun bua' kaber 'pineapple'). The recording explores word order in transitive clauses with question particles (ken); auxiliaries (la' 'want to') and question words (iih 'who', enun 'what', ngapeh 'where', idan 'when'). There is also an attempt to elicit different focus domains (argument focus, predicate focus, sentence focus) and explore the effect on word order in question and answer pairs. Finally, there is discussion of word order relating to particles, e.g. tebey', men, teh and neh. Note that the glossing of sentences with particles in the ELAN transcript is provisional. The following equipment was used: Zoom H4N, Stereo Mic, wind gag. The recording is in stereo and wav format. | |
