Coverage:Papua New Guinea
Date:2013-08-15
Description:In this 34 minute video John Kris tells about canoe races between the different villages in the area. There is a lot of background noise, including chauka birds, insects, music, and coconut scraping. Recorded under Stephen Paura and Sylvia Pokisel's house, with the speakers roughly facing the village, with the road to their left and the bush to their right.
Koro is an Oceanic (Austronesian) language spoken by several hundred people on Manus and Los Negros islands, approximately 200 miles off the north coast of the Papua New Guinea mainland. This documentation consists primarily of recorded narratives and conversations in the Papitalai dialect, spoken in Papitalai, Riu Riu, and Naringel villages.
