Coverage:Papua New Guinea
Date:2013-08-04
Description:Helen Pohu tells the story of 40 flying foxes and their human wives. The same story is told by Michaela Kupwai in v2012-08-02-CB-04. Recorded at Camp 5 with Nicky and Helen Pohu facing the road, with Poloka roughly to their right. Rosemary Paura is also present off camera.
Koro is an Oceanic (Austronesian) language spoken by several hundred people on Manus and Los Negros islands, approximately 200 miles off the north coast of the Papua New Guinea mainland. This documentation consists primarily of recorded narratives and conversations in the Papitalai dialect, spoken in Papitalai, Riu Riu, and Naringel villages.
Helen Pohu is the daughter of Kristine Pat's sister, Mathilda (Hitinde). Her step-father is Andrew Kain. She is married to Nicky, who is Titan. They live at Camp 5, which is across the water from Papitalai village, close to Poloka. She is Jessica Cleary-Kemp's adopted parallel cousin (tesi).
Had a minor stroke a few years ago.
