Description:This is an 11 and a half minute video in which Michaela Kupwai starts to tell a story about two brothers and a devil, but is interrupted by heavy rain. Sylvia is hanging up laundry in the background. Recorded under Steven and Sylvia's house, with the speakers facing the road and beach. Continued as v2013-07-17-CB_AA-10.m2ts.
Koro is an Oceanic (Austronesian) language spoken by several hundred people on Manus and Los Negros islands, approximately 200 miles off the north coast of the Papua New Guinea mainland. This documentation consists primarily of recorded narratives and conversations in the Papitalai dialect, spoken in Papitalai, Riu Riu, and Naringel villages.
Ingela is her nickname (a Tok Pisin pronunciation of Michaela). Michaela lives in Papitalai, but I'm not sure where she was born. She is fluent in Koro and Tok Pisin. I estimated her year of birth.
