| Description: | I had asked Dorothy and Paul, the last remaining couple where both partners are native speakers of Andamang Chini, if I could set up the video camera early one morning to record them as they sit around the fire for their morning meal. The two sit around the fire as Dorothy prepares food. Their sons Wesli and Matthew file in and out as do some of the younger children and grandchildren. Much of the early conversation involves the two of them lamenting and admonishing a range of behavior exhibited by their children. The conversation takes a number of other turns as well, with significant talk about the documentation itself, about a recent visit of the Highlander betel nut buyers, various items of local gossip. What can be seen throughout this recording is how the Chini-dominant discourse between Dorothy and Paul becomes more and more infiltrated by Tok Pisin, a result of the increasing contributions of their children, until finally, the discourse at the end of the recording is dominated by Tok Pisin.
