| Description: | This recording begins with Dorothy starting the morning meal. She is soon joined by several of her grandchildren with whom she interacts in Chini-dominant code-switched speech. She comments on of Adolfa's children known in the village by the code name Sanguma ('Sorcerer') due to his special but limited verbal abilities and complains about the kids defecating and urinating inside. About halfway through the recording, Dorothy's daughter Susan shows up as do some of her other older children. As Dorothy prepares the meal she shouts out complaints to anyone who will listen about those who don't contribute enough of their time to all the work there is to be done. The children and kids disappear, Paul arrives and the two attend to their respective work. Significant child-directed speech, language socialization. Recorded using a Canon Vixia HF G40 @ 35mbps and Røde NTG2 shotgun mic. Separate audio recorded using ms+4 setting of Zoom H2n's internal mic. Total audiovisual duration [02:21:15]. | |
