Coverage:Botswana
Date:2017-06-24
Description:Bampusistse recites a traditional folktale about the hare and the tortoise - the classic tale of who can outrun whom.
This folktale is recorded on video and is provided with a tentative translation in English. Transcription into the subject language to follow.
Lee is the linguist on the project and has worked with different San communities in Namibia and Botswana since 2011.
Bampusitse is a female story teller from the Khwee community - a relatively isolated settlement 60km west of Lethlakane into the western sandveld. Khwee is divided into at least three different clans. Further research is needed to decipher their linguistic affiliations.
