Description:Thorgya is a festival which is celebrated with particular pomp at Tawang Gompa, with performance of dance and associated music. The dance is performed by three highly-trained performers, playing the parts of the Apa (Father/Elder) and two Mlengchung (brothers). This song describes the mountains and flowers, with a prayer to the Dalai Lama, who is described as residing inside a meta pema flower (lotus?). Ordinarily performed on the second day of the festival. This piece seemed to be based on a hexatonic scale, possibly due to the Ladakhi infuences that Lama Tashi cited. See accompanying Field Notes
Originally from Tawang, he was the custodian of the monastery at the time of recording.
