Documentation and description of Vamale, an endangered language of New Caledonia

Coverage:New Caledonia
Date:2017-11-13
Description:Jimmy talks about the civil war in the 1980s, and how angry the well-integrated settler in Tiouandé got when Kanak independantists spoke on TV (he threw a hammer at it), because he had spent his life driing kids to school, paying adults for work on his farm, etc. Jimmy does not remember violent outbursts in the area.
Jimmy Ceu is the chief of We Hava, but lives in Maïna. He is the successor of Kaina, less respected, and suffers from it. He never asked to be chief, but his clan is the traditional owner of the chieftaincy and thus put him in charge.
