| Description: | This is a narrative audio and video recording in which Dibiya Demago tells a story about a girl who died and turned into a spirit in the form of a dog. In the story, a young man fell in love with a Abom girl. She was pregnant and she requested that he bring fish for her, but while he was away, she died in labor. The man came back to check on her, and he saw her grass skirt in the graveyard. A dog came up to him and was licking his sweat and biting him. He started throwing fish to get the dog to go away. It came back over and over, and when the fish were gone, it started eating the man. The dog was the spirit of the dead girlfriend. He climbed a tree, but nobody from the village was around to help. The spirit ate the man. The next day, the spirit was too full (in it's stomach) to go back in the grave hole. People from Tewara found the woman (spirit) and the bones at the graveyard at Zar (near Kasimap). That's why they had to move on from that village. It was a long time ago, but Dibiya's brothers were there at the time (to give some temporal reference). The recording was made at the residence of Dibiya Demago. | |
