| Description: | The Turung and Tai new year (Sangkyen); a description of the different parts of the festival. The festival is held for 3 days around 13th - 15th April every year. On the first day, at a time set by Buddhist monks in Burma and conveyed to the local monks by document written in Tai script, the Buddha statues in the temple are brought down in a formal procession and washed. This is followed by general celebrations, including visiting friends and family, and water fights. The Buddha statues are taken up on the third day and the festival is finished. | |
