Description:This little story tells how Galina Kandakova went to pick berries with her sister Ljubov’ (Ljuba). Along the way they saw a bear track, and Ljuba was afraid that they would meet the bear, but Galina reassured her by pointing out that the dogs were not barking and that this meant that the bear was probably far away. The narrative was recorded in August 2006 by Elena Kalinina and Elena Sumbatova. The recording was time-aligned in ELAN and retranscribed by Daria Bikina in 2017, who glossed the text. Natalia Aralova checked and corrected the transcription and glosses with Galina Kandakova and Antonina Kazarova. Brigitte Pakendorf provided the English translation. Галина Ивановна Кандакова рассказывает, как они с сестрой Любовью Ивановной ходили за ягодами и наткнулись на след медведя. Любовь Ивановна очень боялась, что они встретят и самого медведя, но Галина Ивановна ее успокаивала тем, что собаки идут тихо, не лая, и что наверно медведь уже далеко.
This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun’ and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings.
