Description:This story was recorded by Elena Kalinina and Ol'ga Birjuk from Daria Ivanovna Nadeina in August 2007. In 2017, Natalia Aralova transcribed this recording in ELAN and checked the transcription with Daria Nadeina, who provided the Russian translation. Natalia Aralova glossed it and, in 2018, checked the questions with Galina Ivanovna Kandakova. There is a very similar text in Cincius (1982). It appears that during the recording session Daria Ivanovna used the Russian translation of this and just translated the text back from Russian into Negidal. This legend consists of a number of little stories about tigers. The main plot is about a tiger who has eaten several dogs of a hunter. // Этот текст был записан в августе 2007 года Е. Калининой и О. Бирюк от Д.И. Надеиной. По всей видимости, Д.И. Надеина использовала перевод текста Тигр (№16) из кн. Негидальский язык. Исследования и материалы (В. И. Цинциус 1982, негидальская версия: стр. 51, русская версия: стр. 120). Эта легенда состоит из нескольких случаев с участием тигров. Основной сюжет о тигре, который украл нескольких собак у охотника.
This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun’ and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings.
