Description:.Konda sings a malagan song, usually sung by chiefs at funerals. The song is actually sung in a language that is not completely understood by the people: it is a mix of many New Ireland languages, with some old words that have been forgotten. The question is, whether it is a really mixed language (with elements of all linguistic groups that share a common malagan culture) or whether it is a proto-language, the ancestor of modern New Ireland languages. The recording takes place in the community house of Lakurumau. The recording takes place in the community house of Lakurumau.
Konda Joseph Pikia is a maimai ('chief'), of Lakurumau
