Description:The Kaike people are Buddhist, but they also respect the traditions related to their ancestor god Chopatta and his descendants, like Mappa and Toppa Jhankri. This is Mappa Jhankri's story from the perspective of an elderly man from Tupatara.
Originally from Gumbatara. Mother from Sahartara. Grew up speaking Kaike and Tichurong (Poike Tibetan) in Dolpa. Speaks Kaike on a daily basis, but uses Nepali and English for his trekking business and for his studies. Has done research on Kaike rituals. First recorded on 10 Dec 2017.
From Tupatara, but lives in Kathmandu now. Grew up speaking Kaike and Tichurong (Poike Tibetan) in the village. Always speaks Kaike at home, but Nepali elsewhere in Kathmandu. First recorded on 10 Dec 2017.
