Description:Ashabbir Dohanbaabo and Illiha Dohanbaabo perform two lyre songs. The first is played by Ashabbir alone and represents an autobiographical song called after its rhythm kaldi baaba. The second is played by the two brothers together, one plays the lyre, the other one claps the rhythm. The song was labelled giirgindicco by the singers but clearly contains the word asshamo and can thus probably be linked to the asshamo-rhythm.
Ashabbir is Mahane Dohanbaabo's and Illiha Dohanbaabo's older brother. Ashabbir is also Masarat Dohanbaabo's younger brother. Ashabbir does not only play the lyre but he is also a bamboo trumpet (zaya) player in a trio together with Dishaado Wuysiso and Siyum Messele.
Illiha is Mahane Dohanbaabo's, Masarat Dohanbaabo's and Ashabbir Dohanbaabo's younger brother.
Yvonne Treis is a linguist and works on Ethiopian languages at CNRS in France.
