Description:Habtaamu Yelto performs four lyre songs. He starts off with the kani-song, i.e. a narrative song about a dog (file 001), then plays an autobiographical song in the kaldi baaba-rhythm (file 002). File 004 is a lyre song in the shulshula-rhythm, file 005 seems to be again a song in the kaldi baaba-rhythm (to be checked). In File 003 he demonstratives the baac'a-rhythm. Habtaamu owns a lyre whose sound box is a tortoise shell (see photo linked to this session).
Yvonne Treis is a linguist and works on Ethiopian languages at CNRS in France.
