Description:Pettimaasa Bulkk'a performs five songs on his lyre. File 001 contains a lyre song in the kaldi baaba-rhythm followed in file 002 by a lyre song in the woysa-rhythm. The song in file 003 was labelled woze gaassa (it is unclear whether this is the name of the rhythm or the topic). File 004 and 005 are two recordings of a lyre song in the shulshula-rhythm, the first of which was interrupted due to too much background noise and comments from the audience; therefore, it was repeated an recorded as file 005. File 005 is a work song entitled mos bukkire ('one threshed sorghum'), which was adapted to the lyre. Finally file 006 is a lyre song in the woysa-rhythm; Pettimaasa labelled the song wolpa genno.
Pettimaasa is a farmer and a lyre musician from Gez Dalba. He is Bulkk'a Daanna's son.
Yvonne Treis is a linguist and works on Ethiopian languages at CNRS in France.
